Okay, so I've been missing this
one modifier I used to own with my PCB/AlienBees gear and it especially hurts because that modifier was only $80 from PCB. Upon upgrading to a more "pro" set of strobes, the modifier for my current brand runs around $200-$600!!! There are some, larger models that go even beyond those numbers! I'm talking about the beauty dish.
So last night, I
askedbegged my wife to let me buy another one for my Elinchrom strobes. I told her I found one that's 22" just like the old one and cheaper than the rest. I know there are even cheaper ones on eBay for a fraction of the price but they're only 16" and some coming in odd sizes. Not only would those give me the light quality I
don't want, I would be hard pressed looking for quality grids for it. So after begging and groveling for a good ten minutes, she finally said yes! I was so excited last night that I dreamed about it. It was an awful dream where I had trouble using it with my boom. It was too heavy in my dreams and it came crashing down forming into a shape of a football! Lol. Luckily I awoke.
And when I did, I ate and ran straight to B&H.

I dropped close to $200 for the 22" Speedotron beauty dish and a Normal speed ring insert to use as an Elinchrom mount after tax. As soon as I finished modifying the beauty dish with the speed ring insert, I proceeded to taking sample shots.
Here are a few of my son, my sister and our Yorkie out in the front yard. I didn't tinker too much with the set up. I just suspended it in the air with the boom, chimped once to get the exposure I wanted, and started shooting. These are straight out of the camera. Nothing else was done except for resizing.

I love the quality of light it gave me. I think it's a whole lot better than the silver high output beauty dish I had. I'm really excited to use this on real shoots! Woohoo!!!

I just realized the colors are waaay off. I keep using my main computer at home and forgetting to calibrate the monitor. Bleh.
