Home Based Photography Business...

Postby job sy » April 27th, 2010, 9:43 pm

So, I'm sure some of you (if not all) have thought about starting your own home based photography business. I know I have. I'm still in the early stages of brainstorming. I purchased a book on starting a home based photography business. Although its slightly dated, it still contains some valuable information.

How to Start a Home Based Photography Business

But if you just want to get a rough idea, here's a website that briefly describes the process.

Good idea, Job! I'm reading up on the second link right now.

I've definitely thought of it. It's something I would very much love to do for a living or at least on the side.

I'm still trying to decide what kind of structure I'd want the business to be (sole proprietorship, LLC, S Corp, etc.). Thinking of a name is also pretty hard when you don't have much creative dna in you. I've already drafted an excel spreadsheet with an income & expense log, mileage log, capital asset inventory, model release forms, etc. Slowly but surely. :)

That's more than I've put into my plans. Haha. I started Cranky Shutter with Elvis as a photography group. If there are any clients interested in hiring one, others in the group will have an opportunity to be a secondary photographer and/or lighting assistant. It's just a band of photographers, basically. As for a business, I'm doing this like a sole proprietorship, I guess. Like a fancy freelancer.
